Frequently Asked Questions

  • Head to the Booking page and choose an available time for your free Intro Session — a chance to meet, have a play, and see if the studio is the right fit. No long-term commitment required. If it works for both of us, your chosen time becomes your regular weekly slot, and monthly tuition begins from there.

  • Each bass and guitar lesson is 45 minutes per week.

Tuition fees are $299 billed monthly, and your fee reserves a weekly lesson slot.

  • Lessons are held in-person at my private studio space in West Footscray, close to suburbs like Yarraville, Seddon, Kingsville, Footscray, and Braybrook. I also teach online (via Zoom).

  • Yes I do. Online lessons are held via Zoom, and I teach using a multi camera setup with studio quality voice and guitar & bass sounds, so there is no compromise when learning online. Online students receive all materials via MyMusicStaff.

  • Sometimes ‘life happens’, and you can’t make it to your lesson. In those cases, I create an Asynchronous Video lesson for you.

I record a personalised async video — short, focused, and specific to where you're at. Think of it like a video correspondence lesson: watch it through once, then go slow, pause, and work with it. It's designed to be concentrated content without the back and forth of a live session, so there's more in it than one pass will get you. You'll find it in your Dropbox folder along with your lesson notes. You're also welcome to send me a video beforehand if you have specific questions.

  • After teaching thousands of private guitar and bass lessons, I’ve found this model works best for Adult learners as it:

    • Provides accountability and consistency, which are the main reasons people sign on for a private teacher.

    • Allows students to learn at their own pace, rather than try and fit everything into a single session or ‘package’ of lessons.

    • Eliminates the hassle of finding availability week to week; your day and time are reserved specifically for you.

    • Offers a weekly slot where you know you’ll be able to practice and play distraction-free.

    • Enables me to keep tuition fees accessible, when ‘Pay As You Go’ rates for educators with 20 years of similar teaching, stage, and studio experience can often exceed $120 AUD per lesson.

  • Yes, you're welcome to ‘prepay’ for lessons as a gift. Typically, this means paying for the first month or two of lessons, since I currently don’t schedule on a ‘lesson by lesson’ basis. Feel free to reach out, and we can figure something out that works well for you.

  • Currently, I am unavailable for casual lessons.

  • At the moment, my lesson development and planning are focused on helping adult learners, and I am no longer accepting students under 15 years of age.

Feel free to get in touch if you are looking for lessons for your child; I’m more than happy to recommend a teacher.

  • Your practice log lives inside MyMusicStaff and is there to help you get more out of the time between lessons. Even a brief note about what you worked on — what clicked, what didn't — gives me something to work with. The more I know about what's happening in your practice, the more targeted our lessons can be.
