About Zac

A man with a beard and short hair playing an electric bass guitar on stage, illuminated by colorful stage lighting.

Learning an instrument as an adult is one of the most rewarding things you can do — and one of the most easily abandoned. Life gets busy, progress feels slow, and without the right structure and support, most people quietly put the guitar back in the corner.

Zac Watson is a Melbourne-based guitar and bass educator who built his teaching studio around that exact problem.

Working exclusively with adult learners, Zac brings a structured, progressive approach to 1:1 coaching that goes beyond songs and techniques — building the kind of musical understanding that makes students self-sufficient, confident, and genuinely excited to keep playing.

His teaching is grounded in more than 20 years as a professional musician. That career didn't just shape how he plays — it shaped how he teaches. The fundamentals he brings to every lesson are the same ones that have served him across hundreds of stages and studio sessions.

Over that time, Zac built a reputation as a trusted sideman and first-call substitute across Australia's country, Americana, and roots scenes — touring and recording with artists including Andrew Swift, Gretta Ziller, and Jen Mize & The Rough N' Tumble, whose work earned a 2023 QMA award. Known for his reliability and musicianship, he became a go-to for high-profile, last-minute performances throughout his career.
